Westboro Baptist Plans Several DC-Area Protests

A church famous for protesting military funerals is planning several protests in the D.C. area in the coming week.

Westboro Baptist Church will mark Veterans Day Thursday with protests at Arlington National Cemetery and George Washington University.

Then on Monday, the Kansas-based group will protest at two locations in Woodbridge, Va. -- Woodbridge High School from 7 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and the Coast Guard recruiting office on Potomac Mills Circle from 8 to 8:30 a.m., InsideNOVA.com reported. The recruiting office is one of four locations targeted by a shooter in northern Virginia.

The Woodbridge protests were announced on the group’s website and confirmed by Prince William County police.

“We are aware of it and are going to monitor the protest,” police spokesman Jonathan Perok told InsideNOVA.com.

The Woodbridge High protest is to “picket the students, parents and teachers at Woodbridge High School who live in rebellion against their creator every minute,” according to the website.

The Westboro Baptist Church’s website says that recruiting offices are “where they encourage young men and women to fight for a nation who has made God her #1 enemy.”
