Police Officer Charged With DUI, Hit-and-Run in Crash

A Howard County Police officer has been charged with DUI and hit-and-run after a crash in Upper Marlboro, authorities said.

Maryland State Police say the crash happened about 11 p.m. Tuesday. Troopers say a driver reported that her car had been rear-ended and that the other driver, whom she described as unsteady on his feet, drove off.

Police say the driver took pictures of the license plate of the car that hit her. Investigators say motor vehicle records identified the owner as 37-year-old Corey Britton of Upper Marlboro.

Troopers arrested Britton at his home. He was charged with driving under the influence, failing to remain at the scene and other offenses.

Howard County Police Chief Gary Gardner said that Britton, a corporal, has been put on administrative duty.
