N.C. Police: Md. Woman Handcuffed Daughter to Bed

A Pasadena, Md., woman is facing neglect charges in North Carolina after she allegedly left her mentally disabled daughter handcuffed to a hotel bed while she attended a wedding party.

A concerned guest notified the Courtyard Marriott staff after seeing the teen wandering around the Gastonia, N.C. hotel Saturday night, WCNC reported. When employees went into the girl's room, they saw a chain protruding from under a mattress.

Police say the girl's ankle had been handcuffed to the bed, but she managed to free herself and leave the room. While the girl's age was not disclosed, authorities said she had the mental capacity of a young child.

The girl's mother, 37-year-old Tiffany Michelle Davis, was arrested when she returned to the hotel. Davis told police she didn't have anyone who could watch her daughter, so she left her at the hotel.

Davis was charged with felony neglect and is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

The teen is expected to be okay. Adult Protective Services has been notified.
