Police: Man Rammed Car Into Deputy's Cruiser

A man who was a suspect in a domestic violence incident rammed his car into a sheriff deputy's car Saturday afternoon in Loudoun County, Virginia, police said. Officers shot at him before taking him into custody unharmed.

Jake Digeronimo, 20, who has no fixed address, was charged with abduction, robbery, burglary, assault on a law enforcement officer, assault, auto theft and eluding police.

The series of incidents began shortly before 11 a.m., when a sheriff’s deputy was called to a home near Newlin Mill Road for a domestic argument. Digeronimo was warned to leave and not come back.

But at about 2:20 p.m., he did return, police said, and forced his way into the home, assaulted the woman inside and took the keys to her vehicle. Police caught up with him, and then he rammed the cruiser, police said.

Police said even after the crash, Digeronimo continued to rev his engine and began to back up. When he began to drive toward a deputy again, the deputy shot at his car.

Digeronimo was not struck by the bullet; no one was hurt in the incident.

Police said the deputy, whose name is not being released, has been placed on routine paid administrative leave, pending an internal investigation. Digeronimo is being held without bond.

It is not clear if he has an attorney.
