A man who officers shot and wounded in Germantown, Maryland, Sunday had pointed a replica handgun at residents in the area and didn't follow officers' commands to drop the gun, police say.
Devin Conlon Brunner, 26, faces six charges of first-degree assault, Montgomery County police said in an updated release Wednesday.
Police received numerous calls from concerned residents in the townhouse community on Cross Laurel Court Sunday afternoon about a man who was pointing a gun at homes.
One caller told police the suspect pointed a gun at him when he went outside. The caller went back into his home and told another resident about it, and when they looked out of the window they could see the suspect pointing the gun at them, according to police.
Multiple officers responded and found Brunner in the street's cul-de-sac with the gun and they repeatedly told him to drop it, police said.
Four police officers then fired shots at Brunner when he pointed the gun at them, authorities said.
Brunner remains at a hospital, but he is expected to recover. Police did not say how many times Brunner was shot.
No officers were injured.
Police said the gun Brunner had was a replica handgun, meaning it is identical in appearance but not in operation.
Brunner faces four counts of first-degree assault against a police officer and two counts against a resident.
The four officers who fired their guns are on paid administrative leave during the investigation per the department's protocol.
