Police Investigating Two Attempted Bank Robberies In Arlington

Arlington County police are investigating two attempted bank robberies that took place inside grocery stores, ARLNow.com first reported.

The first incident occurred at around 11:10 a.m Monday at a SunTrust Bank inside the Cherrydale Safeway at 3713 Lee Highway. The suspect passed a note to the teller implying he had a weapon and asking for cash, but fled before he received any.

He was described as a black male between 5′ 9″ and 5′ 10″, in his late 40s or early 50s, with a black and gray beard, and was wearing a red Nationals hat, a navy blue raincoat, jeans and New Balance sneakers.

A suspect with a similar description attempted another robbery about 20 minutes later, at a PNC bank branch inside a Giant supermarket on S. Glebe Road.

Again, the suspect passed a note to the teller and implied that he had a weapon, but fled without the cash.
