Armed Robber in Northeast D.C. Appeared to Be About 12 Years Old, Victim Says

Police are investigating an alleged robbery by an armed boy who appeared to be about 12 years old in Northeast D.C. Wednesday.

The D.C. Police Department tweeted Wednesday about a robbery in the 4900 block of Eads Street NE by a “12-year-old boy wearing a red shirt.”

Officer Araz Alali confirmed reports of the robbery, which occurred around 1 p.m.

Alali said the boy tried to steal a man’s cellphone at gunpoint but did not succeed. He said the victim described the suspect as being about 4'6" tall.

Police only have the victim’s description as confirmation of the robber’s age, according to Alali.

“As far as robberies from people this age go, we have seen an upswing,” he said.
