Police Investigating Assault of Jogger in Alexandria

Police in Alexandria, Va., are investigating the assault of a jogger in the 200 block of East Del Ray Avenue.

The victim told police she was running about 6 a.m. when she was grabbed from behind by a man and touched inappropriately.

Police said she screamed and was pushed to the ground by the man, who then ran away. He was last seen headed toward Mount Vernon Avenue.

The suspect was described as a man of unknown race wearing a black, puffy, thigh-length coat; a black skull cap; and dark pants.

The Alexandria Police Department also is reminding joggers to remember important safety tips while running:

  • Avoid running with headphones
  • Run in well lit areas
  • Try to run with a partner when possible
  • Keep a cell phone with you at all times
  • Let people know what routes you take
