Police Investigate Two Fatal Shootings in SE D.C.

Police are stepping up patrols in a southeast Washington neighborhood after two deadly shootings in the span of five hours.

Officers were called to the 4900 block of G Street SE around midnight Friday for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found 21-year-old Rokeida Spriggs of Southeast suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to an area hospital, where she later died.

"There was an argument that was taking place in the hallway that was taking place prior to the shooting, and after that argument is when the victim was shot," said Lieutenant Bob Alder of Metropolitan Police.

Investigators say there is no suspect information at this time.

Five hours earlier, 28-year-old Kevin Lucas was found shot to death in the 3400 block of A Street Southeast.

The two murder scenes are about a mile apart, but Alder said police do not believe there is a connection.
