Police Arrest Suspect in Stabbing Near Bar

Metropolitan police said they have arrested a suspect in connection to an early morning stabbing near a bar in Washington that left a man critically wounded.

Police say they have arrested Joseph Ricardo Johnson, 35, in connection with the stabbing. Police said  Johnson has been charged with assault with intent to kill.

Police said officers responded to the Zanzibar Night Club on the 1900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue just after 1 a.m. on Saturday morning for a report of a stabbing. Police said an investigation revealed that the stabbing occurred after a verbal argument between two men.

The victim was taken to the hospital.

The bar was closed for 96 hours by order of D.C. police. Alcoholic beverage regulators will then decide if further enforcement is needed.
