Cops in Charm City will soon be able to spend more time outside their cruisers.
Baltimore city officials approved a contract to buy 2,000 specially-equipped BlackBerries for police officers.
The devices are called "Pocket Cops." They provide officers with all sorts of information -- from criminal histories to vehicle registrations -- right in the palm of their hands. No need to dash back to the cruiser to run a warrant.
The city is using $3.5 million in federal stimulus dollars to pay for the devices.
City officials said officers who participated in the pilot program "loved them."
