Man Pistol-Whipped During Attempted Robbery at Downtown D.C. Restaurant

A man was pistol-whipped during an attempted robbery in a restaurant in downtown D.C. Wednesday night.

Three people wearing masks entered the Pret A Manger in the 1800 block of L Street NW after 8 p.m. and demanded money as one brandished a firearm, police said.

During a scuffle with a man in the restaurant, the person with the gun struck him and the gun discharged. The masked individuals then fled on foot.

About an hour later, police arrested 19-year-old Elijah Warren, of Upper Marlboro,  Md.

It's unclear if it was a customer or employee who was injured. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and released.
