A University of Maryland student and wedding photographer is in critical condition after being attacked after he left a wedding in downtown Baltimore.

Police say 22-year-old Eric Suydam was beaten unconscious Saturday night. A witness saw three man approach and attack him, the Baltimore Sun reported. The assailants took his cellphone and keys.

His family says Suydam had been working a photo booth at a wedding at the 1840s Ballroom in downtown Baltimore. According to the Sun, Suydam had left the wedding to retrieve something from his car when he was attacked.

Police say the attack was "vicious and brutal." Suydam has a broken nose and injuries to his head and mouth. He is in a medically induced coma to try to reduce swelling in his brain.

Sandy Suydam said her son had been training for a marathon next month and called him a strong young man.

    No arrests have been made.
