Person of Interest Sought in Southeast D.C. Shooting

Police released surveillance video of a person of interest in a southeast D.C. triple shooting in which two 17-year-old victims were likely unintended targets Tuesday morning.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said the teens and a 20-year-old were getting off a Metrobus in the 3100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE when they got into an altercation at 8:49 a.m.

Someone approached the three victims and fired five or six shots. The teens were "in the area and were subsequently struck by gunfire," according to a D.C. police report obtained by News4.

Both teens are students at Ballou High School. The third victim is a former student at the school.

All three are expected to recover from their injuries.
