Person of Interest Sought in Shooting Death of Woman in Northeast D.C.

Police want the public’s help identifying a person and their getaway car in connection to the Oct. 28 shooting death of a 25-year-old woman in Northeast D.C.

Marcquetta Cunningham was shot and killed about 6:15 p.m. Oct. 28 on the 4200 block of Edson Place NE, near her home, police said previously. She was walking with a man when a group of men wearing ski masks ambushed them and shot her multiple times; the man was shot in the leg.

A video released Wednesday by the Metropolitan Police Department shows a person who may be involved in the killing. The video shows a person walking, turning a corner and walking down another street. The person then runs and gets into a car that takes off out of the camera's view.

Cunningham's family told News4 they were stunned by the young woman's death.

"Her mother can't even explain the depth of what's she dealing with, to have to bury her oldest child," cousin Tina Hill said. "I don't know why this happened."

The investigation is ongoing. Police are offering a reward of as much as $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099 or submit information anonymously by sending text messages to 50411.
