A woman was struck and killed by a Metro train at the Silver Spring station along the Red Line shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday.
She is believed to have placed herself on the track intentionally, said a Metro spokesperson.
The woman was conscious and alert when she was rescued, but was later pronouced dead at the hospital.
Trains were single-tracking between Forest Glen and Silver Spring stations for a short time, but regular service was restored by late afternoon.
The identity of the victim is not known at this time.
