Man Dies After Shooting Near Seniors' Housing in Mount Pleasant

A man has died after he was shot Friday night near an apartment building for senior citizens and disabled people in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Northwest D.C., police said.

The shooting occurred about 7:45 p.m. on the 1800 block of Harvard Street NW, the Metropolitan Police Department said. Fourth District officer found a man with an apparent gunshot wound. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

Police were investigating in a parking lot of Harvard Towers, a 10-story D.C. Housing Authority high-rise.

Information on what preceded the shooting was not immediately released. The victim is the 112th homicide victim in D.C. this year. As of this time last year, 79 people had been killed.

Police said they were seeking a black man age 30 to 40 wearing a white shirt and blue shorts. Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099 or send an anonymous text message to 50411. A reward of as much as $25,000 is offered.
