Pepco Asks for Electricity Rate Hike

Average customer would pay about $6 more each month

Pepco is asking the District Public Service Commission for a rate hike.

The 6.23 precent hike would cost the average D.C. customer about $5.89 per month. That means a typical monthly bill would run about $100.

The additional money would help pay for upgrades to the power system, Pepco said.

The utility is looking for an answer to its request within nine months.
