At least seven pedestrians were struck across D.C. and Montgomery County on Monday night in a string of rush hour collisions that left two victims with confirmed critical injuries.
A woman was critically injured while walking in Rockville Town Square near the intersection of Beall and Gibbs streets about 5:30 p.m., police said. The driver stayed on the scene after the crash, according to police.
The exact circumstances of the crash are under investigation. The victim’s identity has not been released.
Video from the scene shows an umbrella left near the sedan involved.
A woman in D.C. was rescued after being struck by a New York-bound coach bus about 8:45 p.m. at New York Avenue and North Capitol Street. Police said she suffered a leg injury and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Another adult was struck in Rockville shortly before 7 p.m. near Rockville Pike and Halpine Road. They were taken to the hospital as a trauma patient.
Monday’s wave of pedestrian crashes occurred in dark and wet conditions. The sun set at 4:57 p.m. Monday as heavy rains drenched the D.C. area.
Two adults suffered non-life threatening injuries in separate crashes at 6 p.m. at Carroll Avenue and Flower Avenue in Takoma Park and at 6:30 p.m. near Frederick Road and Observation Drive in Germantown. They were both taken to the hospital.
A teenager was taken to the hospital after another crash at 6:45 p.m. at Elm Street and Arlington Road in Bethesda. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Another pedestrian was struck about 8 p.m. at University Boulevard and E. Franklin Street, but police have not released any details in that crash.
