A young man was hit by a car and killed while trying to cross Highway 301 at Vernon Road in Waldorf.
The pedestrian, Jose Echeverria-Aguilar, 27 and of Waldorf, was struck by a driver at about 1 a.m. Wednesday and died on the scene.
Investigators say it appears Echeverria-Aguilar was at fault; he was apparently trying to cross all lanes of the roadway from the median.
The driver stayed on scene.
