Suspicious Items Lead to Dulles Gate Evacuation

Officials at Dulles International Airport evacuated an area around a cargo container including several gates in a concourse that houses mostly international carriers after suspicious items were found there.

The items turned out to be nothing dangerous -- just boxes on a cargo pallet.

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority spokesman Rob Yingling said the items were found Saturday afternoon and the Virginia state explosive ordinance disposal team was called to the scene. He said investigators took their time and kept the perimeter in place as a precaution.

He said officials were being extra vigilant in light of recent terror threats, and were taking all precautions if something out of the ordinary was discovered.

Yingling said two outbound flights were delayed because the aircraft were within the perimeter.
