Open Top Creates New National Mall Route

The double-decker will begin its new National Mall route on Thursday

The National Park Service is bringing interpretive bus tours back to the National Mall after the previous tour operator went out of business.

Beginning Thursday, Open Top Sightseeing will add a National Mall route for its familiar double-decker buses under a contract running through 2014.

Open Top is creating a new National Mall route that will include more than two dozen stops, including the Capitol, Smithsonian museums and at major memorials. Visitors will be able to hop on and off throughout the day. Tickets are $32 for adults and $20 for children. Children under age 5 are free.

Last month, ANC Tours by MARTZ Gray Line began operating an express bus with stops along the National Mall for $5 per boarding.

The buses replace Tourmobile, which stopped operating last year.
