One man was killed and seven other people are hurt after a shooting in Northwest D.C. early Saturday, police said.
Algernon Harvey Jones, 32, died after he was shot on the 100 block of Q Street NW.
Police said they arrived on the scene, south of Florida Avenue, Northwest, about 1 a.m. Jones, of Southeast Washington, was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Six men and one woman also were shot. They received non-life-threatening injuries and drove themselves to hospitals, a police report said.
Two cars and and SUV were damaged by the gunfire. One bullet tore through a window and hit a railing.
Neighbors said they initially thought the sound of shots was fireworks being set off during Memorial Day weekend.
Police said they are seeking two men seen fleeing the scene in a black vehicle with tinted windows.
D.C. police Chief Peter Newsham said the men will be found.
"This kind of reckless disregard for human life won't be tolerated in D.C. To those responsible: We will find you and bring you to justice," he said on Twitter.
