One Dead After Greenbelt Fire

86-year-old found by firefighters

One person was dead and two others hospitalized with serious injuries after a rowhouse fire in Greenbelt Friday night.

The fire broke out in 2 Court of Laurel Hill Road in Greenbelt shortly before 9 p.m. Friday, according to News4's Shomari Stone.The house was described as a two-story home in the middle of the row; firefighters reported fire on both floors and extending to the roof.

Authorities say that it took 15 minutes to extinguish the fire and that a woman later identified as 86-year-old Betty Starry was discovered inside the house. Starry was pronounced dead. Officials say that a man and a woman sustained injuries while exiting the home and were taken to a hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Five other people (three adults, two children) were displaced from homes on both sides of the fire's house of origin.

There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.
