Loudoun County on Board With Dulles Rail Spending Plan

Loudoun County backs funding for Dulles Rail Project

Loudoun County is on board with plans to finance the second phase of the Dulles Rail Project. The county’s board of supervisors voted Tuesday night to approve the deal negotiated by local, state, and federal representatives.

That agreement came after months of intense talks, with Loudoun and Fairfax County leaders angry over how much money they would have to contribute to the project. In the end, the U.S. Department of Transportation agreed to give the counties federal loans to help pay for their shares.

The approved funding plan lowers Loudoun County's share to 4.8 percent of the capital costs.  The final bill could be in the neighborhood of $265 million, according to a county estimate.

Phase 2 of the Dulles Rail Project will connect Reston and Ashburn on the new Silver Line.
