Oh Deer! A Fine Rescue Ends With a Fine

Good Samaritans must pay the price for a good deed

Two men who helped rescue a deer stuck in some icy river waters are being fined for their action.

Maryland's Natural Resource police fined James Hart of Jessup and Khalilalim Abusakram, Jr. because they weren't wearing life jackets.

The men were in an inflatable boat on the Patapsco River last week when a deer fell through the ice.

Police say the men ignored instructions to get off the water, and instead the men continued to break the ice, which allowed the deer to get to shore.

After escaping the water the deer ran into some woods.

Because the men failed to follow instructions they were fined $90 each.

Both are appealing the fines.
