Officer Charged with Filing False Police Report

A Fairfax County Police officer was charged for hit and run and filing a false police report, in what turned out to be a single-vehicle accident.

Crews were dispatched to Gallows Road in Annandale, Va. May 12 just after midnight for a hit and run. Officials said an unknown vehicle traveling westbound on Masonville Drive ignored a stop sign, entering Gallows Road and striking a police cruiser in the back. The cruiser allegedly spun and hit a utility pole. The officer in the cruiser claimed the car drove from the scene after the accident.

Friday, police officials said the officer, identified as Carl Joseph Biggs, filed a false police report and was driving the only vehicle involved in that accident in May.

Biggs, a two-year member of the force, has been charged with hit and run and filing a false police report. He has been placed on administrative leave.

A criminal investigation is pending.
