Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley is criticizing a fellow governor and potential candidate for the GOP nomination for president.
O'Malley, chair of the Democratic Governors Association, says that his counterpart in New Jersey, Republican Governor Chris Christie, would bring tremendous entertainment value, but little substance, to the presidential race if he were to seek the Republican nomination.
The Maryland governor made the comments during an appearance Sunday on the CBS show Face the Nation. O'Malley said Christie has struggled to create jobs, pointing to the state's 9.4% unemployment rate. He also noted that New Jersey's bond rating has been downgraded, and it's schools have slipped in national rankings.
But appearing alongside O'Malley, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour said the Maryland governor's comments indicate how afraid the Democrats are of Chris Christie. The New Jersey governor has thus far resisted becoming a candidate, but those close to him say he is reconsidering his decision.
