No Charges in Fatal Bay Bridge Crash

Tractor-trailer plunged into Chesapeake Bay

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- A woman who admitted falling asleep at the wheel, which led to a fatal tractor-trailer crash, will not face criminal charges, WTOP reported.

Candy Baldwin, 19, was driving a Camaro that crossed the center line in the early morning hours of Aug. 10, causing 57-year-old truck driver John Short to slam on his brakes. His tractor-trailer brushed against the parapet on the right before crashing into the parapet on the other side and dropping 30 to 40 feet into the water. Short died in the crash.

Baldwin has received three traffic citations.

Baldwin said she attended her mother's wedding the previous day. Her blood alcohol concentration was 0.03 percent, well below the legal limits for impairment (0.07 percent) and intoxication (0.08 percent).
