No Bail for Man Accused in Tysons Cab Driver Killing

Man claims he shot driver in self-defense

FAIRFAX, Va. -- A Fairfax County judge has denied bail for a man accused of killing a taxi driver in the Tysons Corner area.

The decision came Monday at a hearing in which a prosecutor cast doubt on the claim by Evan Gargiulo, 22, that he shot the cab driver in self-defense. Chief Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Ian Rodway said Mazhar Nazir, 49, was shot to death while wearing his seat belt.

Nazir's body was found Nov. 2.

Gargiulo told police he fired at the cab driver after the driver got angry and began to climb over the seat and attack him over his inability to pay the fare.
