New Evidence Revealed in Death of Fashion Designer From Virginia

New York Post: Prosecutors say email points to money as motive for slaying

New evidence revealed Monday points to money as a possible motive in the death of a young fashion designer from McLean, Va.

Sylvie Cachay, 33, died in a bathtub in a New York city hotel in 2010.

Cachay’s boyfriend is awaiting trial for her murder. Nicholas Brooks appeared in court Monday.

Brooks’s lawyers planned to show forensic evidence they say proves Cachay's death was an accidental overdose, according to the New York Post.

Cachay sent Brooks an email the day before she died, according to the Post. In the email, Cachay told her boyfriend she planned on calling police, saying he used her credit card without permission.

Brooks was unemployed. He depended on Cachay for money, according to prosecutors.

Cachay was angry after finding out Brooks cheated on her, the Post reports.
