Naval Academy Drug Use Under Investigation

Five midshipmen are accused of using cocaine, mushrooms, ecstasy and ketamine

Five midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy are under investigation for alleged drug use, and another four midshipmen face potential discipline for failing to report them.

The five midshipmen are accused of using cocaine, mushrooms, ecstasy and ketamine, a Naval Academy spokesman said in a statement Monday afternoon.

"The United States Navy and the Naval Academy both have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to the use of illegal substances and take all allegations of misconduct seriously," the Academy's statement said.

The Naval Academy and Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) began investigating after two midshipmen made a report in late November.

The midshipmen accused of drug use and those accused of failing to report them face potentially being expelled from the Academy, which is located in Annapolis, Maryland. Courts-martial and other military justice avenues also are an option.
