Closures due to groundbreaking of new Smithsonian museum

There will be road closures and parking restrictions on the National Mall Wednesday due to the groundbreaking for the National Museum of African American History and Culture, according to the Smithsonian Institute.

The streets affected are adjacent to the Washington Monument and the National Museum of American History.

The closures and restrictions are necessary as part of security for the event and will take place between 12:00 a.m. until 12:15 p.m., according to the Smithsonian.

Full list of road closures:

  • 15th Street between Independence Avenue and Constitution Avenue (6 a.m. until noon)
  • Madison Drive and Jefferson Drive between 14th Street and 15th Street (6 a.m. until noon)
  • Madison Drive between 12th Street and 14th Street (8 a.m. until noon)
  • The 12th Street ramp from Constitution Avenue to Madison Drive (8 a.m. until noon)
  • 14th Street between Independence Avenue and Constitution Avenue (9:45 a.m. until noon)
  • Constitution Avenue between 12th Street and 17th Street (9:45 a.m. until noon)

Parking will be prohibited on Madison Drive between 12th Street and 14th Street starting at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday.
