Fourteen people were displaced after a late Friday night fire in northwest Washington, according to the district’s fire department.

Crews were called to New York Avenue, Northwest, just after 11 p.m. Friday for a rowhouse fire. Officials said it appeared the blaze started in the basement and spread upward through the building.

The American Red Cross in the National Chapter Region was called in to help the residents who were forced out into the cold. Fire officials said there were no injuries.

Investigators have not released the cause of the fire.
