Beginning Thursday evening, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) will be conducting exercises.

The flights are meant to test the ability of the military command center to identify and intercept suspicious aircraft over the nation’s capital. Some of the flights will be as low as 2,000 feet.

"These [flyovers] are carefully planned," a representative of NORAD said. "We try to minimize noise as much as possible."

You can expect to see or hear the jets between 11:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. each night between now and Sunday.
