Multiple Shootings Overnight Kill Two; Injure Seven

Four Shootings in the District; Two in Maryland

Seven separate shootings occurred in the D.C. area during a violent night, leaving at least two dead and seven others injured. Police confirm there were five incidents in the District, and two others in Maryland.

Around 11 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a call in the 500 block of Edgewood Street N.E., where they found a teenage boy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as Dezmine Perkins, 16, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Another fatal shooting happened in the parking lot of Popeye's Chicken in the 5300 block of Marlboro Pike in District Heights, Md., just before 3 a.m. Sunday. Police say the adult male was pronounced dead at the scene.

At 10:30 p.m. Saturday, a man was sitting in his car in the 4700 block of Jay Street N.E. when he was shot. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Then at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, a man was shot while walking in the 500 block of 51st Street N.E. near Division Avenue.

Three other people were shot while walking in the 600 block of Southern Avenue and S. Capitol Street in Southeast, around 4 a.m. Sunday. The victims, two men and a woman, were taken to local hospitals. Police have not yet released information on the extent of their injuries or a description of the suspect or suspects.

Another man, 59, got into an alteration and was shot at a bus stop in the 5300 block of River Road, near Ridgefield Road, in Bethesda, Md. The incident happened around 3 a.m. Sunday. "After being injured, he walked down River Road, just a little ways, crossed the street to the 24-hour Sunoco gas station where he was able to summon help," said Montgomery County Police Capt. Paul Starks. The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. The suspect in the shooting was described as a black male in his early twenties, around 5'9", wearing a camouflage jacket and black pants. Another person was shot during a domestic incident in the District.

Police say none of the shootings are related.
