Mt. Vernon Square Station to Close for 2 Days for Nuclear Security Summit

The Mt. Vernon Square Metro station will be closed for two days for the Nuclear Security Summit.

The station, which serves the Green and Yellow lines, will be closed from Wednesday evening until Friday evening.

The summit doesn't begin Wednesday, but security measures are already being put into place.

Heads of state and other international leaders will be meeting to discuss how to stop nuclear terrorism around the world. As a result, the Secret Service is stepping up security, restricting parking and closing roads.

Metro said the Mt. Vernon Square station closure is necessary because the station falls within the secure perimeter for the summit.

Green and Yellow line trains will travel through the area without stopping.

Customers who normally use the Mt. Vernon Sqaure stop can use the Gallery Place or Shaw-Howard stations as an alternate. Metro says the stations are a 10-minute walk from the Mt. Vernon Square station.

The summit will also close a number of area roads in the District. Click here for a full list.
