Court Date Set For Mother Who Left Child in Van

Karen Murphy will stand trial in March 2012 for the death of her two-year-old son, who was left in a hot minivan for several hours.

Murphy left her son Ryan in her minivan while she was at work in Prince William County last month.

He was left in his carseat for at least seven hours. Murphy discovered him when she returned to her home in Bristow.

She faces charges of felony murder, child abuse and child neglect, and faces a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison.

According to Inside NOVA, a search warrant affidavit revealed that this isn’t the first time Murphy has left Ryan in the car.

Back in January, Ryan’s day care called her at work, wondering why he wasn’t at school.

Murphy then realized he was still in the car. He’d been left in his carseat for about 20 minutes.
