Mother Charged With Killing Newborn Daughter

A judge ordered the mother, who is pregnant again, to be held in jail

A Rockville, Maryland, woman is facing murder charges in the death of her newborn daughter.

Police said Rebecca Briones, 31, has admitted to shaking her 2-month-old daughter and throwing her on a bed on Feb. 18, 2017. Briones then called 911 after discovering her daughter, named Lissana, was unresponsive.

Lissana was flown to a hospital, where she died three days later.

Briones told police she had abused the child in a similar way three other times, police said.

An autopsy revealed the child died of blunt force injuries.

Police have charged Briones with second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.

In court Friday, prosecutors said Briones is seven-months pregnant.

A judge ordered Briones to be held in jail and was concerned she could hurt the baby she's carrying.
