Mother Assaulted In Takoma Park

Man allegedly told mother to 'shut her kid up.'

Takoma Park Police are searching for a man who allegedly assaulted a mother and child while they were waiting for a bus.

Investigators say the incident occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m. Friday morning at the bus stop near the intersection of Holton Lane and New Hampshire Avenue. The victim told police that she was waiting for the bus with her three-year-old son, who started crying.

The suspect allegedly told the victim to "shut her kid up," according to police. When the boy continued to cry, the man allegedly pushed the child in the head, knocking him to the ground. When the mother attempted to intervene, the man allegedly punched her in the mouth, before fleeing south on New Hampshire Avenue.

Neither the mother nor her son suffered any serious physical injuries in the incident. Police describe the suspect as a black man with short twists in his hair, who stands approximately 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds.
