More Than a Year Later, Woman Arrested in Deaths of Mother, Sister

Police initially believed Helen Hargan shot her mother before turning the gun on herself

More than a year after a 63-year-old woman and her adult daughter were found dead inside their McLean, Virginia, home, police have arrested the mother's other daughter in the case.

Pamela Denise Hansen Hargan and her 23-year-old daughter, Helen Lorena Hargan, were found dead inside their home on the 6700 block of Dean Drive on July 14, 2017.

A 911 caller in Texas told police that his girlfriend called him and confessed to killing her mother. He gave the 911 operator the McLean, Virginia, address, and when police arrived, they found the mother and daughter dead on different floors of the home.

A gun was next to Helen Hargan's body, according to a search warrant.

Police initially believed Helen Hargan shot her mother before turning the gun on herself.

But they soon learned it was all a ruse.

Megan Hargan, Hansen Hargan's other daughter, also lived in the McLean home at the time of the murders. After seizing her laptop, police found fraudulent wire transfers on the day before and after the murders, search warrants state.

Police say Megan Hargan also had access to her mom's passwords and attempted to transfer money. She moved away after the murders, according to police.

On Friday, police announced that they arrested the 35-year-old for the murders of her mother and sister. Police say she was taken into custody in West Virginia.

No additional details have been released, but police will hold a news conference Friday afternoon on the arrest and investigation.
