More Beach Bums Expected This Summer

Beach tourism and travel officials offer more deals to attract customers

Three days before Memorial Day weekend, waves and crowds already are crashing the beaches.

The holiday is the official start of the summer travel season, and according to travel and real estate analysts, more travelers than last year are planning to take the plunge this summer.

Many are being wooed by cheaper prices at hotel and rental properties.

Rental prices are slightly lower than last year at Rehoboth Beach. To stand out, owners are advertising amenities like wireless internet access and expanded cable. Properties on the oceanfront are expected to rent out regardless.

At Bethany Beach, with the economy apparently no longer in a freefall and gas prices about $1.50 less expensive than last year, people are willing to pay last year prices for accommodations, real estate agents said.
