A moped rider was killed in a collision with a car Monday night in Fairfax County.
The victim has been identified as Peter Matthew Kester, 56. He was riding a 2009 Genuine "Buddy 150" moped in the 6400 block of Franconia Road when the crash occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m., Fairfax County Police said.
The driver of a 2000 Toyota Camry was attempting to make a U-turn near Thornhill Court and apparently didn't see the moped, police said. Kester was wearing a protective helmet and reflective vest, police said.
Kester attempted to stop but hit the the rear passenger side of the Camry.
First responders attempted CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the driver of the Camry, a 23-year-old woman, remained at the scene. She was not hurt.
Kester, who won the moped in a contest, was driving home from teaching vacation Bible school. He was married 32 years and had two sons.
The crash is still under investigation. Police said speed and alcohol don't appear to be factors in the crash.
