Montgomery Co. Now Accepting Bulky Plastic Recycling

Don't know what to do with that cracked kiddie pool? Well, starting Wednesday, you can recycle it in Montgomery County.

The county is now accepting bulky, rigid plastics at its Shady Grove Transfer Station and Processing Facility.

Officials say the plastic items should be empty and free of any loose soil or dirt. Among the items that can now be recycled are:

  • Playhouses and swimming pools
  • Five gallon buckets and larger
  • Laundry baskets
  • Pet carriers
  • Clothes hangers
  • Traffic signs
  • Automotive parts
  • Storage containers

Items that once contained pesticides, motor oil or chemicals will not be accepted.

Recyclables can be dropped off at the Shady Grove Transfer Station and Processing Facility, located at 16101 Frederick Road in Derwood, Md., Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. and on Sundays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
