Montgomery Co. Exec Recommends $49M in Budget Cuts

Leggett wants to close $250M deficit

The Montgomery County executive is recommending cuts to nearly all areas of government service.

Isiah Leggett is asking for $49 million in cuts in order to close a projected budget deficit of $250 million for fiscal 2010.

Leggett is already in talks with local union leaders about holding off on planned raises for employees.  He's also asking county workers to take a two-day furlough.  But even if those proposals happen, they wouldn't be able to make up the deficit.
