Montgomery County Alcohol Inspector Arrested for Extortion

Annapolis man arrested Friday

A Montgomery County liquor inspector has been arrested for allegedly extorting a Silver Spring restaurant.

Carlos Grajede, 38, a liquor inspector with Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Enforcement, was arrested and charged Thursday on two counts of extortion.

Detectives with Montgomery County Vice and Intelligence said he approached the owner of a Silver Spring establishment, Matamoros Restaurant on University Boulevard, and said he knew of two underage drinking violations.  According to police, Grajede offered to "take care" of the violations and warn of future enforcement in exchange for $1000.

The restaurant's owner told police, who launched an investigation which led to his arrest on February 16.

Grajede, a resident of Annapolis, is due in court on March 16.
