A bicyclist is fighting for his life after a Montgomery County police cruiser struck him in Chevy Chase Friday night, police say.
Officer James O'Rourke was driving a 2016 Ford police cruiser south on Connecticut Avenue near Jones Bridge Road about 11 p.m. when he struck a man riding a bike, police say.
O'Rourke had been responding to a routine call for service and did not have his emergency lights or siren activated, police say.
The bicyclist was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police have not released his name or age.
O'Rourke was not injured.
The collision is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
