Mom of Missing Children Once Again Found Incompetent

A Maryland woman police believe is responsible for the death of her two toddlers was once again found incompetent to stand trial.

During a hearing Friday morning, the judge ordered that Catherine Hoggle continue to receive treatment at Perkins Hospital Center. A psychiactric report found that Hoggle may not have an understanding of the legal process and raised questions about her ability to communicate effectively with her attorney.

She will return to court in 60 days to determine whether the charges against her will go forward.

Hoggle is charged with misdemeanor child neglect, abduction and hindering law enforcement in connection with the 2014 disappearance of Sarah and Jacob Hoggle.

Hoggle, whom police say was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, said she left her children with someone where they would be safe. She has refused to say where they are, and authorities have said they believe the children are dead.

Investigators want to pursue a homicide case against her.

Hoggle's next status hearing is scheduled for Nov. 23.
