Fairfax County police confirmed that a missing 5-year-old boy and his mother were spotted at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas Thursday night.

Police issued an arrest warrant Sunday for Rebecca Serafin, who may be using the surname love, the mother of Cameron Serafin. She is facing a felony charge for parental abduction.

Authorities believe Serafin could be heading to Los Angeles with her son. They were seen in McCarran's baggage claim area about 10 p.m. after arriving on a Southwest Airlines flight from Birmingham, Ala.

Cameron Serafin should have been returned to his father on April 7.

Instead, authorities say, his mother altered their appearances, dyeing Cameron’s hair dark brown, and left her car behind in an Arlington shopping center to avoid detection. The child seat was missing, but what appears to be a passport photo of the boy was found in the vehicle, News4’s Pat Collins reported.

Serafin also took $6,100 in cash out of her bank account and then closed the account.

A police spokesperson said the boy's mother failed to comply with the custody arrangement. Cameron would spend one week with his mother at her family home in Great Falls and another week with his father, Joe Serafin, at his home in Vienna, Collins reported.

Police had initially charged Rebecca Serafin with custodial interference, a misdemeanor.

Joe Serafin said Cameron's mother has had substance issues in the past, and he is afraid of what she might do, Collins reported.

Police released images of Cameron and his mother believed to be the most current, although a police spokesperson declined to state where they were taken. These images reflect their altered appearances.

Rebecca Serafin is approximately 5-foot-4 and weighs between 120 and 130 pounds. Cameron Serafin is 3-foot-5 and weighs about 40 pounds.

Surveillance video at McCarran shows Cameron wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, black and white pajama-type pants, and a gray train engineer-type hat. His mother appeared to be wearing a black hat, dark jacket and blue jeans. She carried two large pieces of luggage.
