A D.C. charity is collecting used Metro cards from visitors who came to town for the March for Our Lives.
"Are you visiting Washington, D.C. from out of town? If you don't want to keep your Metro SmartTrip card after your visit -- don't throw it away!" Miriam's Kitchen posted on Facebook on Thursday.
The organization is asking visitors to mail in their cards so they can be redistributed to people who are homeless.
"The cards cost $2 each (not including subway or bus fare) and can make a big difference for someone trying to get to a medical appointment, to a shelter, or to get a warm meal," the group wrote on Facebook.

If you send in a card, Miriam's Kitchen suggests putting a sticky note on it indicating the fare balance.
